LAW DEVELOPMENT
The Lands Department is currently developing LNIB laws under the authority of the Land Code, which enables Chief and Council to enact a wide range of laws for reserve lands. The law-making process, outlined in Section 7 of the LNIB Land Code, includes submitting a proposal to Council, public posting, community engagement, consideration of members’ input, and approval by a majority vote of Council. This work is guided by the need to address community issues in a fair and consistent manner, with clear processes for staff to follow.
Community members are encouraged to take part in this process by reviewing draft laws, attending Lands Management Advisory Committee (LMAC) meetings for initial discussions, and staying informed through the website and newsletter for upcoming engagement opportunities
